The citizens of Residential Main St. would like to voice the following:
We are asking for a change in the way Huntington Beach recognizes and utilizes Main St. between 17th St. and the downtown Library
We are asking the city to commission a study to look at the usage of Main St., it’s current deficiencies, as well as possibilities for improvement
We are suggesting a combination of the following:
New traffic roundabouts at:
Either Adams or 14th St.
This improves the left turn safety from Adams to SB Main St.
This improves the left turn flow from Adams to NB Main St.
Slows traffic SB on Main before the curve and drop in elevation at 14th St. (see RMS Data - 2 fatalities due to excess speed on this section of RMS)
Protects pedestrians crossing Main St. at 14th St. - where there is an elementary and a middle school as well as a church
Palm Ave.
Slows traffic as they enter downtown HB
Allows Palm Ave traffic to more easily cross Main St.
Slows traffic leaving downtown as they pass into the residential section of Main St.
Dramatically improves the very confusing and complicated intersection where drivers on Palm must look backwards and up RMS before turning/crossing
A new more prominent crosswalk between the parks
New flashing lights (when button pressed), flashing grommets in the pavement
A new overhead trellis system which would allow for:
Blinking lights when pedestrians are present
Banners and announcements for upcoming downtown HB events
New crosswalks at:
14th St.
Crest Ave.
Palm Ave.
A dedicated green bike lane NB and SB to/from the downtown Library to Adams (already present from Adams to 17th St.)
Signage directing trucks to main arteries and not RMS
Formal requests to mapping software to remove RMS as a recommended route for directions to/from Downtown HB
Additional 4 way stop signs possibly at:
Main and 12th St.
Might require reconfiguration of Eastbound 12th St.
Main and Crest Ave.
